Of legs and jobs

Yesterday I was strapped in to the 'Cybex', a fiendish device that wouldn't look out of place in a bond movie. Having been restrained so that you can only bend the leg being tested, the aim is to push and pull as hard as you can while the machine resists and measures the force. This was enough to reduce me to a sweating, gasping blob after about 10 reps (did 3 sets in total). The results were that the bad leg is at about 70% the capacity of the good one, which is about where it should be after 4.5 months of rehab. I have a stack of new exercises to do and another appointment with the Demon Machine in 6 weeks.
In job news, I got my intial notification from work that my contract expires on 31st March 2011. I knew this, but its a formality that they have to remind me. Fingers crossed that either the grant application or the Colchester job come through, otherwise I'm looking at some involuntary time off, since research jobs are going to be nonexistent for a while due to the cuts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11225197
