Why? And who's your MP? I've written to mine a few times and got the standard form letter back. David Heyes MP.

Same basic problem, yes - if the uni funding cuts are the ones coming from STFC in astronomy and space science. I work in STFC in house research and we are even harder hit...

I wrote to mine a couple of years ago and was quite impressed. It was an idea that I thought might come in handy. She passed it on to the appropriate minister and they got back to me. Turned out something similar was already in place. But I was pleased to get a useful response.

So its definitely worth a try.

Totally.

I have heard that MPs (& researchers for them) regard 1 letter as being worth 10 emails, and 100 signatures on a petition, at the veryleast, with the possibiltiy of adding up to an zero to the emails and/or petitions.

Any usefuly form letters you could point us in the direction of?

There's a useful guide to writing to your MP here:

http://www.openrightsgroup.org/orgwiki/index.php/Letter_writing

Form letters are usually discouraged and tend to be ignored, because they normally indicate an organised campaign by a small group of people rather than being representative of the constituents.

I'd agree with this completely. Mine was just a short letter written off the top of my head. I tried to keep things simple and clear. Being fairly simple myself this wasn't too much of a chore.

Mine was good. I shouldnt have needed to contact her because the council should have responded, but she (well her secretary) kicked some council butt!

So go ahead, write to him, because even if he is on your side already he can wave your letter at people.
