Weekend in brief

My weekend in brief.
Saturday got up, went to to work for a bit then to Mr. Perry's BBQ. Much fun was had, and Mr Parr won an award. Many thanks to Rich for the lift back, saving us a 2-bus journey through lovely Saturday night Manchester.
Sunday - cards at the pub was cancelled, so went to work for a few hours. Tried the new climbing wall at Great Sankey Leisure Centre. Its the most brilliantly unsafe thing I've ever seen. They have taken lots of real rocks and stuck them into the walls and roof of a corridor. Its quite difficult and slippy, and you really have to look at the type of rock you are about to stand on - shiny polished volcanic being less good than sandpapery sedimentary. The unsafe bit is that the routes actively encourage you to go upside down and horizontal......over the usual leisure centre floor of a thin layer of lino over concrete!
Monday - got up early and drove to Stanage. Had a good, if scary day out. First up was Hollybush Crack, which was fairly straightforward if steep. I seconded Christine up a couple of scary things - including one on which the gear placements were utterly pants. With this example of cool-headedness to inspire me, I tried out Black Hawk Traverse Left. The `left' bit is a famous big step, but not too difficult. Unfortunately I misread the guide and tried to do it higher up - I got to a fun section without any actual handholds and balanced entirely on toeholds before I realised what was going on. Almost totally bottled it at that point with a bad case of `wobbly leg', since I was above and a long way sideways of my last anchor, so would have taken a big swing if I'd fallen off. Just about managed to retrace my path back down to the right place. Iiiinnnntereesting......then I went to work until 11pm :(
