Setting things in motion

I've just got back from the hospital. The consultant was really good, and we managed to have an intelligent and informed conversation. She confirmed that I have an ACL rupture and also booked me in for an MRI scan to check for any other damage.

I can take the splint off (a good thing since I've been sleeping in it for a month and its a bit smelly). I should be off crutches in a couple of weeks if physio and the MRI scan go ok, and walking and driving reasonably soon. Apparently most people get to somewhere near normal without surgery - but as soon as I mentioned climbing, off road running, skiing etc, it was time to consider the operation.

I'm on the list for keyhole surgery in around 18 weeks, followed by 20 weeks rehab/physio (first 6 weeks on crutches) before I can do any sport where there's a risk of twisting motions.

Ah well, I'll have to spend my time eating, drinking and socialising!
